#17498 Antique Ming Style Ju Wood Square Stool with Replaced Rattan Seat (SOLD)

Antique Ming Style Ju Wood Square Stool with Rattan Seat. This older and larger stool was originally built with a "soft seat" that gave more support to the spine with its soft and bouncing woven rattan sheet over a specially built wood frame underneath with an all empty space inside the frame- a feature often seen for the tables, stools, beds, and others from the 18-19th century and earlier. Because the rattan had been damaged, the factory often would have replaced with the new rattan with a solid wood frame underneath as a "hard seat" for the modern use with the intention for it to last longer yet losing its original intent to build to suit the human body. The simple carving on the four sides of the stools are common motif for some of the Ming style Ju wood Furniture pieces. This stool is probably from the mid Qing period. The lacquer finish outside has been refinished recently with an all smooth and appealing shine and texture.
