One notices that the frame of the table with legs are constructed in a somewhat "double-frame" design that is actually one frame hand-carved to look like two frames with one sitting on top of the other when one looks at the table from a side view, giving the table a more generous and luxurious look for its use of material. The top of the table is composed of two large planks of wood. With nice old wood patina. Possibly a Qing Dynasty piece made of a type of denser Huali hardwood. Dimensions: 35" x35" x 13 1/4" H

    Good Antique Small One-Drawer Northern Kang Table made of northern elm in original good condition with pleasing wood patina, constructed in all rounded edges. It has a nice antique Chinese coin on the metal drawer pull. 19th century. "Kang" is type of Chinese bed platform often made of bricks with hollow space underneath for burning coals or wood for heating at winter time during the cold weather as there was no electricity at old time. Furniture piece that is used on a Kang bed or by the Kang bed is often called a Kang table, a Kang cabinet, etc. This small low Kang table might have been used for writing, eating, reading, or drinking tea!     17-18th Century narrow Kang Table with carved early style dragon motif and original reddish brown lacquer finish. Similar style carved dragon can be seen on other Ming style older furniture pieces and architectural carvings from the 17-18th century. This one is great for its elegant proportion, carved early motif, and the original lacquer-it has it all! Kang is a hollowed Chinese bed platform made of bricks or cement often used in Northewrn China or in colder weather, especially duirng the old days when there was no electricity. To stay warm, one builds fire underneath the hollow bed. Since it might be the only place in the house that is heated, the bed is often built bigger than a normal bed and hence serves as an area for activities besides sleeping during the winter.     This pair of smaller size very rare antique Chinese scholar's hardwood stands with burl wood top has a delicate look yet is well built. This pair of elegant stands has nice detailed carved lines along the frame and and is constructed with the key style supports and bottom stretchers as well as the elegant slightly inward tapered legs. The wood has the original beautiful patina with dark purple red hue shining through the dust. Some of the key shaped spandrels have been repaired and replaced. Although these stands can be used for small potted flowers or bonzai, they might have been used for displaying smaller precious art objects such as incense burners or small landscape rocks. The burl wood on the top of the stands have been repaired or replaced as well. These stands are made of rare exotic dense hardwood, possibly Zitan. Old Chinese art objects and furniture pieces in pairs are much more sought after by than the singular ones by the collectors for Chinese art when the objects were created as pairs.
